🔬 Manus Unveils “Wide Research” — 100‑Agent Swarms for Lightning‑Fast Web Tasks

Singapore‑based startup Manus AI has rolled out a new feature called Wide Research that can automatically spin up 100 + parallel AI agents to tackle a single user request. The company demonstrated the tool by asking each agent to analyze one of 100 sneakers; within minutes the system returned a sortable matrix plus downloadable assets.
Unlike rival “Deep Research” agents from Google, OpenAI and others that work sequentially, Wide Research focuses on breadth and speed, handling large‑volume research, data analysis and even creative tasks such as multi‑style poster generation.
How it works – Every sub‑agent is a full Manus instance running on its own cloud VM, enabling massive parallelism without predefined manager/worker roles. This architecture, Manus claims, scales compute “100 ×” over its original service.
Availability & price – Wide Research is live today for Pro‑tier subscribers (US $199 / mo) and will roll out gradually to Plus (US $39) and Basic (US $19) plans; a free tier remains limited to one concurrent task. Annual billing receives a 17 % discount.

Limitations noted by VentureBeat – The launch materials do not include benchmarks proving Wide Research is faster or more accurate than a powerful single agent, and industry experience shows multi‑agent systems can be harder to coordinate and debug.
Why it matters:
Wide Research is an early real‑world test of “agent swarms,” an approach many researchers see as a path toward distributing cognitive load across many small LLM instances. If Manus can demonstrate reliable speed‑ups and quality gains, it could pressure larger players—and accelerate adoption of parallel‑agent tooling across enterprise workflows such as competitive analysis, market mapping and large‑scale content generation.
